The government, which speaks about patriotism, has kept the war hero Sarath Fonseka behind bars for 18 months now, while giving all the protection and luxuries for LTTE’s weapons procurement chief KP, alleges UNP co-deputy leader Karu Jayasuriya.

He was speaking today (Aug. 08) in Matara, where a major protest took place, organized by MP MangalaSamaraweera.

Mr. Jayasuriya said all the citizens should unite to defeat the dictatorial rage, taking the FTZ workers and university lecturers as examples.

He also said that just like at the recent local government elections, the government would give many promises and bribe the people of Matara in order to swindle their votes at the upcoming polls.

The UNP co-deputy leader expected that the elections commissioner would be able to hold a free and fair election at least for the remaining LG bodies.
