Head of the UNP’s media unit and MP MangalaSamaraweera says there is no question of a new leadership for the party now.

“There is no need to challenge the leadership now. This question doesn’t even arise because there is simply no vacancy,” he says.

“If my comments upset anyone, that is because of their own agendas and shows their politicalimmaturities. I’m merely speaking the truth”, he has told Hard Talk of Daily Mirror.

Mr. Samaraweera has maintained that leadership changes are sought by those seeking to ‘strengthen the government and nothing else.’

Firm on the conviction that the reformists threatening the party leadership were targeting the wrong enemy, he has stressed that instead, the party needs to act as a responsible opposition and spearhead a campaign against the government.
