The police, while investigating the prostitution ring involving tele-drama actresses, have now discovered that it is operating as a large scale network that caters to the ‘upper middle and the affluent classes in Colombo, theLankapuvath news agency reported.
Teledrama actresses in the age group of 18-26 years are involved in this racket and the police said many of them were ‘young girls’ who are yet to gain popularity. ‘Some of them play minor roles in the teledramas and engage in prostitution for additional income, an investigator said, according toLankapuvath. The police have now discovered the names and addresses of those teledrama actresses and the hotels they used to meet their clients.
Police also said that the actresses were recruited to the network by an ‘influential’ actress offering them an advance payment, which seems substantial for these ‘new girls’.
In addition, the girls are paid 25% of the fee charged from the clients while a ‘Manager’ who escorts them is entitled to 10% of the fee charged per girl.
Police said hotels at Battaramulla, Kirulapana and Colombo are places where these young women visit to offer themselves to clients. The operation is done mainly through mobile phone contacts, the police added.
