UPFA member of the Colombo Municipal Council Asath Salley says the councillorswho petition against him are the ones who are corrupt.
Mr. Salley says it is him who had first refused to work with such corrupt councillors.
He was commenting to ‘Srilankamirror’ about thecouncillors who had handed over a petition to the president seeking disciplinary action against him.
Mr. Salley said he extended his support to the president due to the UNP’s acceptance of SarathFonseka as the common candidate of the opposition at the presidential polls.
There are persons who are levelling accusations against him, who had crossed over for fear of being exposed in financial frauds amounting to millions of rupees, he charged.
Some of them had defrauded money to traders, he said, posing a challenge to his accusers to remove him from the councillor if possible.
Mr. Salley said he would meet the president shortly and then decide whether he would work with these corrupt councillors any further.
Chief opposition organizer in the CMC Mohamed Mansil has said that all ruling party members have signed the petition against Mr. Salley.
