It was shockingly upsetting to see the young Indians getting thrashed in the hands of Australian gangs in Sydney, the other day. The ordeal of these innocent youngsters was well covered by CNN as one of them was stabbed in the abdomen while another student was beaten to near death and yet a third one was severely punched on the face and the forehead. Racial discrimination against Indians studying or working in foreign countries is a usual phenomenon and speaks volumes about the prejudices of the west against Indian nationals. One often hears foreigners resorting to name calling and ethnic howling to demean and humiliate Indians as they move around in the public places. Psychological injuries caused by such treatment are very painful and damaging for the Indian nationals staying abroad. No doubt Indians suffered silent and latent mental abrasions as they remained exposed to nightmarish experiences abroad, however, Indians remained comfortable so long as the abuse remained only verbal and they were not attacked physically. Unfortunately the Australian abhorrence for Indians grew disgustingly to an unmanageable level and they were physically assaulted at every public place in Sydney. In this context Indian protests were timely and justified. One feels pity on their painful torment and embarrassing ignominy while staying abroad.
Indians are hated, harassed and attacked not only in Australia and Europe but also in Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, China, South Africa, America and South American region. One wonders as to why Indians are despised and loathed the world over? Perhaps Indian caste system imbibed in their way of life, cultural norms and social mores has an answer. The Indian socialization process is based on prejudices and social discrimination. When the process gets internalized the Indians are forced to avert the notion of mutual co-existence and reciprocity based on human dignity, respect and honor. They live together only to enhance negative feelings, develop bigotry and promote intolerance and racism. Their approach towards non-Hindus and non-Indians is cynically insular and mutually exclusive. Their hatred towards fellow human being residing in their contiguous neighborhood is classically manifested. Overwhelmed by the power motives, Indians want to dominate others and make others as subservient to their will. Hence, while in foreign land, Indians could not hide their real motives and their inner desires got window of expression. Consequently their prejudicial behavior and negative display of emotions, forced the other communities to hate them back.
As Indians resorted to move out to find better living abroad, their priorities were absolutely correct and they focused on acquiring knowledge and mastering skills. They competed well in all fields and created their own businesses abroad but they could not depart from their mischievous mind set to conspire against the others. Moreover when the going was easy and even Indians took full credit but when the going became rough and bumpy they prepared a case for all South Asians. Even in Australia when Indian students were attacked they made hue and cry that Australians are discriminating against the South Asians thereby pitching other regional countries into their battle. Indian hatred towards Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal is well known. These South Asian countries know the true face of India and now the world is getting familiar with the genuine Indians. Will Indians resort to some sort of introspection to mend their ways and start learning how to earn respect through mutual co-existence and cooperation? The earlier they learn the better for themselves.

It is apparent that the author HATES india which is the reason why he emphasized only on the negative points, the article is not a violation of india’s incredible culture or it’s people as the average indian is described in the article. This article showcases the current stature of Journalism in Lanka, where a country is written off by any or ever journalist as is the case with this article; the author intended to paint a bad picture by demeaning every indian. He has neglected the fact that India is a divided land where Indians find adjusting with indians from another state, religion troublesome and at the same time there are thousands of indians who are cultured, in harmony and believe in equality. Inter caste marriages are a taboo here, honour killings are an every day affair etc etc but then again which country doesn’t have its odds? Indians could have difficulty adjusting, called backward by the goras and maybe no indian cares with what happens to the country but India would always be a nation which donates to its neighbouring countries and is mocked and despised by it’s takers. Am not asking for silence through gratefulness, but Mr. WHOEVER you need to give respect where it’s due and consider all factors for a prosperous career in journalism.

Everybody know why others hate India, logic is simple.Indian brains and talent have taken your jobs,it is quite obvious you will hate us because we come in your country and take your jobs.
But friend instead of writing these foolish things,try improve your own country’s condition and start doing some research and study , so that we don’t take your jobs away from you.

It is actually this type of thinking that creates bigotry and racism. The author is being subjective and not providing reason on reference to his/her thinking. You can never generalize an entire country/race with one standard thought. India, or for that matter any Asian country is changing with the times. To assume all Indians are hated because they all harbour the need to dominate is baseless and unnecessary.
I suggest you authenticate your writing with facts instead of fueling tensions among your South Asian readers.

I think this article was written by a Pakistani and not a sri lankan.
I find the website has not done any sort of thinking on there part to edit the content which the jounalist has written. The comments made by journalist seems to be very much personal and it never reflect today’s India.
A country which seems to become powerful in one or two decade will show its power and dominance over other. I feel this is natural and same as other powerful nation has done.
It’s quite unfortunate that a country which has survived great destruction from LTTE due to help from India cannot understand the importance of their neighbour.

I feel that any person in any country is tolerated to an extent. If hoards of Indians gallop off to any country and expect to behave like they own the place, well it’s not going to be appreciated. As an Indian, i know how we behave. Fact is, I have commonly seen that whenever someone comes across a person from an African country they get 1/10th the respect that the gora’s get. For some reason we are fascinated by the fair skin. We discriminate. But that does not mean anyone has the right to get violent with another person. Unjustified violence is the sign of a sick mind. Maybe it’s just frustration. Mob mentality exists in India more than in any other country, but it’s not right either. Another thing is that we Indians need to respect the ways of the country that we visit.
Fact of the matter is that Indians are as human as any one else in this world, Wanting to survive or grow, live in harmony. If Indians are intelligent and knowledgeable by virtue of hard work, desiring to challenge there own thinking process, wanting to be the best in which ever field they choose be in. And if that s creating a insecurity in other part of the world then being the opposite is far more damaging. Having said that the only weak link we have in our country is our politician, who have been the bystanders and divided.

Indians should decide not to send their kids to Australia for education. There’s plenty of high quality education available in our countries. Depriving the Aussies this source of income should make quite a few of the white trash job less. In any case Australia is a dump, and is yet to join the civilized world.
Students with Indian qualifications are better equipped than those with qualifications ‘bought’ in Australia when it comes to performing on a specialized job.

This is also based on the fact that most Indian-Americans are migrants, rather than students, and have proven to be the most successful migrant group, surpassing even the Jews.
Seen as a predominantly intellectual group, wealthy and instantly capable of using all legal means to defend themselves, Indians already command a degree of reluctant respect or at least silent and distasteful distancing from most other groups.
The inner workings of the convoluted Indian psyche is a mystery to most Americans, who apparently do not know whether to love or hate them. But most do undrstand the utilitarian purposes the Indians fulfil in thier utlitarian and totally materialistic world; the Indians perform the jobs the Americans cannot, while the Mexicans do what most Americans won’t.
It’s a funny thing; Americans don’t respect Indians as people, but as one would a very expensive and sophisticated piece of technology, or a very dangerous and exotic creature..
I feel that through this article, you have failed in the primary duty of a journalist: to be objective. Your references to the nature of the Indian community is not only offensive, but unsubstantiated by facts. It is all pure surmise.
Furthermore, I don’t think it’s possible to classify different races of people into various categories the way you have. Many Indians are, I agree, rigid about the caste system and tend to be prejudiced against other races but the same can be said for people across the world.
Everyone is, of course, free to have their opinion and you can believe what you want to believe, but as a journalist, you have to examine both sides of an issue which is something you’ve failed to do.

When china got independence in 1948 the first thing what they did was to send troops to Tibet, Mongolia, Vietnam Taipei and make them part of greater china,if India had followed d the same policy Afghanistan,Pakistan,Nepal,Srilanka, Mourituious, Myanmar,Bangladesh, Bhutan etc would have become part of India

I agree with the Elango, the author has presonal reasons to hate India, he wrote the article without any knowlede of History, India never wants to rule others infact victim of other cultures (muslims,English), many culturs living in India with free expression, why Indians have problems in Sydney is different, because Indians are hardworking so they are earning moderate incomes and good positions every where, thats make the people to hate.
